Along with beaches and walks there are plenty of other activities should you want to get out and about.
Bike hire. Just a few miles west of Vasilitisi is the small harbour town of Finikounda. You can hire bikes at Finibike where they offer regular city lady’s and gent’s bikes as well electrical bikes, mountain, trekking, hybrid and full suspension bikes. They can also provide helmets, locks, lights and child seats for free. A little further up the coast in Methoni there is a small cycle hire business Methoni Bikes who offer both rental and tours. Boat hire. Whether you would like to sail, kayak or use a motor, there are plenty of ways to get on the water. Closest to the house in Koroni, on the long sandy Memi beach you will find Koroni Surf Centre with windsurfers, SUP paddleboards and kayaks for hire. At Finikounda you can hire motorboats at Fini Divers as well as windsurfing, kayaks and SUPs at Alpha Sports. At Methoni you can both hire boats and book yourself a trip to the island of Sapientza with Methoni Boat Rentals. Up at Pylos we have often hired motorboats from Pilos Dive Centre and found it the best way to explore the extraordinary Navarino Bay, Gialova and the picturesque Chrysi Akti aka ‘golden beach’. Another way to get to Sapientza is with Captain Kostas on Bebis Boat (no website only a Facebook link) who leaves from Finikounda every day at around 10:00am.
Polylimnio Waterfalls. A wonderful place to swim when it is really hot, are the waterfalls near Haravagi which is about an hour away north of Koroni, back up the main road towards Kalamata and turn left at Rizomilos signed to Pylos. After about 5 kilometres turn left to Haravagi – signposted to the waterfalls. There is a car park and information board and a low-key cafe in the summer. It can be busy at weekends in high season and so the earlier you can get there the better. You can clamber up some steep paths from one waterfall to another if you choose, so do take good walking shoes.
